SUMMARY:Online Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:In a December 2020 report\, the Dutch Scientific Council for Go
vernment Policy (Wetenschappelijke Raad voor het Regeringsbeleid\, WRR) ac
knowledged a new reality: The Netherlands is a migratiesamenleving (migrat
ion society)\, and today’s immigrant population is extremely diverse. Th
e council report called upon the government to adopt integrated policy to
help new migrants navigate Dutch society. What are the needs of the modern
\, diverse migrant population in the Netherlands\, and how can local and n
ational Dutch governments be held accountable for helping newcomers feel a
t home and genuinely welcome in the Netherlands? University of Utrecht pro
fessor Mark Bovens will join RUG assistant professor of Public Internation
al Law Aikaterini Tsampi\, who previously contributed to the United Nation
s Human Rights Committee as an independent researcher\, and Judith Frens\,
an International and European law student who grew up abroad\, in an onli
ne panel discussion on the 10th of March. The panellists will discuss how
to meaningfully embrace and enable diversity within the Netherlands\, comb
at discrimination on the level of the European Union\, and place the Dutch
cultural approach in global context. This free\, online event is open to
all\, and attendees can also submit their own questions for the panel when
they sign up to join. Sign up via this link.
